AI Prompt Guide & Cheat Sheet

Artificial Intelligence is quickly becoming part of daily life thanks to generative AI programs that use algorithms to generate unique data to create new products, automate tasks, and improve existing experiences. Since the technology is still so new, many people don't know how to fully unlock its potential and create prompts for the technology to accomplish specific tasks. That's why an AI prompt guide can be beneficial to people. Since this technology is so new that people have yet to learn about it in school, and there are so few experts in the field, finding relevant information can be difficult.

AI Prompt Cheat Sheet

Knowing how to write a good prompt is essential for getting more precise and better-quality answers. It's vital to harness the abilities of the large language model you're using, like ChatGPT, to get the best possible results. This AI prompt cheat sheet can help you learn the basics of writing better prompts to generate better responses.

Be Specific and Concise

Using clear and concise wording is crucial for providing the large language model with clear instructions to help it generate better responses. It's best to do this by feeding it as much relevant information as possible and using simple language as a command rather than a question.

Formatting Specifics

In your prompt, if you want a list, bullet points, a table, or any format other than a paragraph of text, add formatting specifics to your prompt.

Add Perspective

Depending on what you're trying to accomplish with your prompt, tell the program what persona it needs to take on. For example, if you're looking to write an office-wide email from the office manager, you'd tell the program to "Act as an Office Manager" before telling it what task to accomplish.

Cite Sources

To ensure you get more accurate information from the program, instruct it to give you sources to double-check its data, especially when you're using it to help you write an informational and educational article.

Don't Use Ambiguous Wording

Many natural language processors can't handle ambiguous wording and may not give you the most specific responses. You can circumvent ambiguity by adding relevant context and information to the AI to help give it a clearer idea of what you're looking for.

Specify Emotions

Without specific prompting, these programs will automatically generate more even-toned and informational responses. Incorporating emotionally charged words into your prompt can add a touch of emotion to the output.

Multi-Step Prompts

Not every prompt can be done in one go. Sometimes it needs to be broken up into multiple steps where the first prompt is part one, you wait for its response, and then you use that response as a jumping-off point for your following prompt. This is also good for giving the program more context and relevant information to get better and more detailed answers every time.
